After qualifying from University with a BA Hons Degree in Contemporary Textiles and Surface Pattern, Nichola spent many years in the design and print industry. Following a 3-month work opportunity in Qatar working as a project manager, she returned to the UK without a job. In between temp work she started to create her own handmade cards which I sold from market stalls.
Unfortunately, Nichola lost her grandad and he left some money, and rather than squander the inheritance she would do something positive.
Nichola always loved working with wood so the obvious choice was a laser cutter. Many hours were spent perfecting products such as bunting, cards, memory boxes, etc.
In 2013 Nichola opened her first retail outlet, although it was the size of a shoebox.
Trade built up over the next couple of years.
In 2015, Nichola’s beautiful daughter Nellie was born and we had outgrown our tiny shop.
Then as if a Guardian Angel was guiding us our beautiful new shop fell into our lap, it offered us workshop and retail space. We took this opportunity to rebrand and asked our Facebook followers for ideas of what our name should be.
Nellies Wooden Workshop was born.
